Committed to Excellence in Care

St. Margaret’s at Mercy has earned accreditation for Nursing Care Center and Post-Acute Care, reflecting our commitment to safe, high-quality care in New Orleans since 1889.

Our Approach

A nursing home designed around residents, not routines

St. Margaret's at Mercy was purpose-built from the ground up to feel nothing like a traditional nursing facility. We are one of the only skilled nursing communities in New Orleans designed entirely on the household model of care — replacing long corridors, clinical nursing stations, and triple-occupancy rooms with warm, neighborly living spaces where residents truly feel at home.

Household Model Living

Residents live in households of 8–10, joined into neighborhoods — each with a hearth room, dining room, and country kitchen. 90% of rooms are private.

24-Hour Skilled Nursing

Round-the-clock care from licensed nurses and CNAs, with a Medical Director and on-site physical, occupational, and speech therapy teams.

Short and Long-Term Care

Whether recovering from an illness or surgery, or looking for a long-term home, our team tailors services to each resident's unique needs and goals

Specialized Care

ALS House for Innovative Living

The ALS House at St. Margaret's at Mercy is the first and only residential facility in Louisiana specifically engineered to care for individuals living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Championed by former New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason, our ALS House empowers residents to live with continued purpose and independence.Using PEAC eye-gaze technology developed by Proximis — the same system used at the Leonard Florence Center, formerly the only facility of its kind in the world — residents can control their environment without physical assistance:
Our ALS House staff receive specialized training in ALS care, ensuring that every resident benefits from both cutting-edge technology and deeply compassionate human care. The peace of mind this provides to families — knowing a loved one is safe, stimulated, and treated with dignity — is immeasurable.
